Auditions for University Chorus and Chamber Singers are held at the beginning of the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters, usually on the day before classes begin.

To schedule an audition, visit or call the Music Department Office (room 112, 530-752-5537) during Exam Week prior to the quarter during which you'd like to sing with either ensemble. For Fall Quarter, contact the Department Office one week prior to the first day of classes.

The UNIVERSITY CHORUS rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10pm to 6:00pm.*

The CHAMBER SINGERS rehearse on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7:10pm to 9:00pm.**

  • For the University Chorus, the audition will consist of singing scales and some sight-reading.
  • For the Chamber Singers, in addition to the above, each prospective member must prepare an appropriate piece that demonstrates his/her vocal development and capabilities. (A classical song or aria will suffice, but most pop or show tunes would be inappropriate.)

Following a successful audition, applicants will be notified of their admission by an email which will contain registration information.

If you were previously in the CHORUS, but not during the immediately preceding quarter, you will have to re-audition, simply because our capacity is limited to 125 singers. For CHAMBER SINGERS, everyone must audition except those who sang in the group during the previous quarter. Those continuing must notify the TA(s) of their intention to return, and be present at the first rehearsal.

The Chorus rehearsals are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10pm-6:00pm, *with occasional and mandatory extra meeting times for rehearsals with orchestra. The Chamber Singers rehearsals are on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7:10pm to 9:00 pm, **with occasional additional rehearsals TBA.

Only 1 unexcused (personal) absence is allowed each quarter. More than 1 unexcused absence will result in a "no-credit" grade. Participation in concerts and in any additional rehearsals, as announced at the beginning of the quarter, is mandatory to receive a passing grade. Insufficient attendance may preclude your participation in concerts.
